Good mortar, good walls
For the creation of a tidy (garden) wall, we recommend PROBAU Plastering and Masonry Mortar or PROBAU Cement Mortar. Rely on the PROBAU brand quality which you can only find in your BAUHAUS centre.
Mix PROBAU Cement Mortar with water in a mortar bucket to a workable consistency. An agitator facilitates this work.
Apply a layer of repair mortar to the concrete foundation. Place a sand-lime brick on each corner. With a straight edge and a spirit level, check the level.
Highly absorbent stones such as this limestone are wetted by immersion.
This increases the adhesion between mortar and stone.
PROBAU Cement Mortar or PROBAU Plastering and Masonry Mortar
is applied liberally on the brick. The brick is then placed in the mortar bed. The thickness of the horizontal joint is approximately 12 mm; the width of the butt joint is about 10 mm. Remove squeezed out mortar.
This garden wall is set in a half brick bond, i.e. the butt joints are offset by half a brick width.
Hammer wall anchors into the pre-drilled rawlplug holes and then embed them in the mortar joints of the new brickwork.
This creates a connection to the house wall.
In preparation for the subsequent grouting, the butt and horizontal joints are scraped clean to a depth of at least 15 mm with a jointer immediately after completing the masonry work (before it sets).
